Vasant Valley School, New DelhiWhat makes school & campus in Bangalore different?
School and campus work is most of what we do in the city. Assembly cover, walkways between blocks and shaded play areas all have to go up in a vacation window and be safe for children the week after, so the detailing avoids anything at head height, every edge is captive, and the programme is built around the school calendar rather than ours. The long wet season sets the gutter sizes; the gentle climate leaves the rest to the architecture.

Do you build school & campus in Bangalore?
Yes. School tensile structures cover assembly grounds, sports courts, walkways and drop-off points. Fabrication happens in the workshop so site work fits inside a holiday, hardware is shrouded or out of children's reach, and the fire class is set by the fire consultant and local authority. PVDF-lacquered PVC is the usual campus membrane. For Bangalore specifically, drainage for a long wet season. With a gentle climate, most projects are driven by span, daylight and architecture sets the engineering, and pVDF-lacquered PVC is the default for corporate campuses; plain PVC can suit budget work in this climate.

Designing for Bangalore
What the site does to the design.
The design wind pressure is worked out for your exact site under IS 875 (Part 3), from its terrain, height and exposure. We do not take a city figure off a list.
Moderate summers, rarely above the mid-30s °C, and cool nights.
About 970 mm of rain a year across two monsoons, June to September and October to November.
Lower UV and pollution than most large Indian cities.
- Ground
- Mostly hard gneiss and laterite, good to build on. Low-lying tank-bed areas need a proper soil investigation.

What schools usually ask us to cover.
Which form suits the site.
A school can only lose a playground for so long. Most of the work is done in our workshop so the site work fits inside a holiday.
Assembly grounds
Large clear-span roofs over morning assembly, also used for events and sport.
Sports courts
Basketball, badminton and multi-purpose courts, with columns kept outside the run-off zone.
Covered walkways
Continuous cover between teaching blocks, labs and the canteen.
Drop-off canopies
Porte-cochères sized to the real queue of vehicles, not the gate width.
Waiting and break-out areas
Shaded seating, parent waiting zones and outdoor teaching space.
Pool covers
UV and rain cover so the pool works through the year.
| Fire | PVC and PVDF typically DIN 4102 B1; PTFE-glass non-combustible. The class is set by the fire consultant and the authority |
|---|---|
| Child safety | Turnbuckles, cable ends and tensioning hardware shrouded or out of reach; column bases clear of play areas |
| Steel | Designed to IS 800, hot-dip galvanised, detailed without sharp edges or low trap points |
| Drainage | Discharged away from walkways and play areas, so a blocked outlet cannot pond water over children |
| Membrane | PVDF-lacquered PVC is the usual campus choice; PTFE where the fire strategy requires it |
| Phasing | Frames designed so a master plan can be built in stages |
| Warranty | One year on structure and workmanship; five to fifteen years on the membrane, by fabric grade |
