Cost guide

₹280–2,500 per sq ft, installed.

Plus GST. Where your project lands in that range depends on a handful of things, set out below, and an exact figure comes from your own site and design.

An indicative number is easy to give and usually wrong. Most of the total is steel and installation, and both are decided by your span, your ground and your wind.

What moves the number

Seven factors.

  1. 01

    Membrane grade

PVC is the base. A PVDF finish adds a little. PTFE-coated glass can roughly double the fabric line, and ETFE cushions add an air system.

The fabric is usually a minority of the total.

  2. 02

    Span and form

A simple single-slope cantilever is the cheapest form per square metre. A large clear span, a compound curve, or many small separate structures push the rate up.

    Often the single biggest driver.

  3. 03

    Steel

Grade, section sizes, and whether the frame is hot-dip galvanised or painted.

Coastal and industrial sites need heavier protection.

  4. 04

    Foundations

Set by the soil and the wind. Rock is cheap to build on; soft ground or high uplift needs bigger footings.

    Uplift governs, not weight.

  5. 05

    Height

A taller structure catches more wind, so the frame and foundations grow with it.

Height is set from the use, not rounded up.

  6. 06

    Site and access

Crane access, working height, and whether the site has to stay in use during the build.

A live site adds sequencing cost.

  7. 07

    Scale

Large projects cost less per square foot than small ones, because design and mobilisation are spread over more area.

A single carport is the most expensive per m².

Getting a real figure

Five steps to an itemised quote.

  1. 01

Send a layout or a sketch

The area to cover, rough dimensions, what is underneath, and any height or clearance needs.

  2. 02

    Tell us about the site

The city, whether it is coastal or exposed, and whether it stays in use during the build.

  3. 03

    Tell us the brief

The design life, any fire class the occupancy needs, and whether colour or form matters.

  4. 04

    We survey the site

Measured levels, access and soil information feed the design.

  5. 05

    You get an itemised quote

Design, steel, membrane, foundations and installation as separate lines.

  1. Most installed projects in India fall between ₹280 and ₹2,500 per sq ft plus GST. A PVC car parking shade sits at the economical end; a large clear span in PTFE sits well above it.

  2. Usually because something is missing: a lighter membrane grade, steel that is painted rather than galvanised, footings not sized for your site's uplift, or no allowance for site conditions. An itemised quote makes those differences visible.

  3. Rarely. Most of the cost is steel and installation. Upgrading the membrane can be the cheaper decision over the life of the structure, because a longer-lasting fabric is replaced less often.

  4. They fall in the same overall range, but the moving system decides where: the number of bays, the travel distance, the drive and the controls.

Tell us where it is, roughly how big, and what it has to cover. We come back with questions, options and the next step, which is usually a site survey.
