Designing for Chennai
The climate sets the details.
We do not use a city wind figure off a list. The design wind pressure for your structure is worked out for the exact site under IS 875 (Part 3), from its terrain, height and exposure.
Hot and humid for most of the year, with May and June regularly in the high 30s °C.
The north-east monsoon, October to December, brings the bulk of the rain in heavy spells.
Cyclone season on the Bay of Bengal coast, so gust loads matter more than the annual average.

- Coastal alluvium and sandy soils near the shore, stiffer clay inland. Footings are sized from the soil investigation, with uplift governing rather than weight.
