Retractable roofs · Restaurant & courtyard
Open-air covers, whatever the weather.
An outdoor courtyard earns money on good evenings and stands empty through the afternoon heat, dust storms and the monsoon. A motorised fabric roof lets the same floor work in all of them, closed from a wall switch in a minute when the weather turns.

What is a retractable roof for a restaurant?
A retractable restaurant roof is a motorised fabric roof on rails over a courtyard, terrace or lawn, closed against sun and rain and opened for clear evenings. Because it moves most days, the drive, controls and duty cycle matter as much as the fabric.

How it is built
The frame, the cover, the drive.
- 01
Fabric bays travel on rails, driven by a motor and run from a wall switch or a remote. Closed, they shed rain to gutters; open, they gather at one end so the floor sees the sky.
- 02
A roof opened most evenings in season is a different machine from one opened a few times a year. We size the drive and wear parts for how often yours will actually move.
- 03
Fabric stays cooler than polycarbonate underneath and is quieter in rain, which is why it is the usual choice where people sit and eat.
Where it works
- Restaurant courtyard
- Rooftop bar
- Banquet lawn
- Hotel courtyard
- Food court
- Club and resort terrace
Typical specification
What goes into it. Confirmed at survey.
- Fabric
- PVC or PVDF-finished membrane, chosen for span and duty
- Drive
- Motor per bay, synchronised, run from wall panel or remote
- Safety
- Limit switches, emergency stop, motor protection
- Optional
- Wind and rain sensors that close or hold the roof
- Warranty
- One year on the complete system, in writing
The final configuration, frame sizes and drive are set at detailed engineering for your site, wind and use. Cost: most installed projects fall between ₹280 and ₹2,500 per sq ft plus GST; what moves the number.
Before you order
Settle these at the survey and the roof will work for years.
How often it will open
Every evening, or for events only? Be honest about it at enquiry; it decides the drive and the maintenance interval.
Power
A motorised roof needs a power point at the drive. On larger systems, check whether three-phase supply is available.
Power cuts
In a power cut the roof stays where it is. Ask for a manual override if your site loses power often.
Kitchen exhaust and lighting
Plan extract outlets, fans and lights around the bays so nothing fouls the travel.
Yes. Closed, the bays shed rain to gutters and the roof is designed for your site wind. It is weather cover rather than a sealed room, so plan side screens if wind-driven rain is a concern.
The roof stays where it is. If your site loses power often, ask for a manual override or a backup supply to the drive at design stage.
Wind and rain sensors are an option. They trigger the roof to close or hold position, within the safety logic of the control system.
